A & M Adventures
We lease several private ranches in Northeast New Mexico. This area has canyons and top country running on both sides of a river valley which is an ideal home to elk, mule deer, antelope, bear and turkey. We offer fair chase, guided trophy hunts for each of these species. We are improving wildlife habitat by thinning trees, improving water, controlled burns, and controlling predators. Our high quality hunts are maintained through selective trophy hunts and a very limited number of hunters. Long-term emphasis on quality and respect of the game has been the key to high success rates for our hunters.
Located in the middle of prime hunting country our hunting country includes a variety of wildlife habitats. Ponderosa pines, cedar and pinion trees, mountain mahogany, oak brush and gramma grass are native to the land. Nutritional grasses and alfalfa grow along the river bottom hay fields. Ranging in elevation from 6,500 feet on mesas and volcanic peaks to 5,300 feet in the canyons, and bottom country. Most of the terrain is accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicles, which enables hunting off the rim rocks. Our hunts are ideal for the hunter having difficulty with the rugged country that wildlife inhabits, for the hunter who can’t get around like they once could, we have successfully guided hunters in their mid 80s, hunters in wheel chairs, many with ankle, knee, or hip difficulties and have success rates in the high 90% on quality trophy animals in a fair chase environment.
Hunting license are obtained through private land permits we issue or over the counter license. These are both a guaranteed hunting license, there is no state drawing to apply for. Most of our hunts are spot and stalk. We taylor hunts for the individual hunter and small hunting parties. We seldom have more than 5 hunters on any one hunt. Our experienced guides have guided in this area for several years. This is an added advantage as guides are familiar with the country and assist in countless hours of scouting before hunters arrive and between hunts. On-site lodging is provided in a comfortable new hunting lodge consisting of, 7 bedrooms, 4 baths, kitchen and large living room area, deer, elk and turkeys can be observed regularly out the lodge windows or from the porches. Bedrooms are double occupancy with a bathroom shared by two bedrooms; we have satellite big screen TV and Wi-Fi. All bedding, linens, towels and great ranch-style meals are included. All hunts are guided, trophy elk, mule deer and whitetail, 1X1, management mule deer, antelope, cow elk, turkey, and black bear 2X1, Hunters only need to bring their own personal items.
The nearest airport is Colorado Springs, CO. Other airports are located in Denver, Co; Albuquerque, NM; and Amarillo, TX. Hunters are scheduled to arrive at our lodge the afternoon of the day before the hunt starts. Price of the hunt does not include New Mexico hunting license, transportation to or from airport, processing and shipping of meat, taxidermy services or gratuities. A deposit of half the price of the hunt is required at booking. The second half is due upon arrival and to be paid in cash or same as cash only. Non-hunting guests will be charged $125 per day. 2014 Hunting Season
We had a super 2014 hunting season with our hunting guests, harvesting terrific animals in each species. Spring turkey hunts provided 11 hunters with 21 long beard toms. The antelope hunts ran 100% success with all hunters taking nice bucks measuring 14 to 15 inch. Our elk hunts were great with 8 out of 9 hunters successful and bulls scoring from 300 to 365 with 4 of the bulls scoring over 340 and all being great trophies. The mule deer hunts were super successful also, with bucks scoring from mid-160’s to upper 170’s. There were a couple of huge mule deer that we spotted this year, that are still up for grabs for future hunters. We are taking a few lion hunters each year these hunts are extremely exciting and have been very successful, we were able to take a couple of very nice lions in 2014.
This past December, during the mule deer rut, we were fortunate enough to be in the right place during a mule deer fight with a video camera. In my years of outfitting and hunting I have seen better buck fights, but this is one of the best I have seen with two mature bucks caught on video. Like our Facebook page and watch the fight. Additionally we will be adding photos of live bucks and bulls that we spot throughout the spring and summer we encourage hunters to occasionally check out the site for new pictures and information.
Our standard rifle elk hunts consist of four hunters. These hunts are conducted on several private ranches. We have continually reduced hunter numbers to be at the point we are now at. We currently are taking 10 hunters on about 100,000 acres. This strategy is how, for the past 13 years, we have had success rates in the high 90 percent on 6X6 or better bulls. Our rifle elk hunts are ran during October. The bulls are in rut at this time and normally a hunter will hear plenty of bugling. Glassing and stalking are our main ways of hunting. The elk population continues to increase on our hunting property with more and bigger bulls each year. This is due in part to light hunting pressure; resulting in a high percentage of big bull elk which are not harvested and are allowed to get bigger. Our elk tags are a private land owner permit, which is a guaranteed license. All of our bull elk hunts are guided 1 x 1. We offer an ideal hunt for elk in the 300 to 350 class range, and consistently take bulls each year over the 350 range.
Silver Mule Deer
Gold Mule Deer
Combo Mule Deer & Elk:
We have had an increasing whitetail population in our area for the past 8 to 10 years and after looking over the bucks this past season, we are going to be able to take a couple of trophy whitetail bucks during the 2015 season. Occasionally check our Facebook page for photos of existing bucks on our leases. Included in hunts, lodging, ranch stile meals and guided 1X1.
These are very exciting 3 day hunts and hunters will see high numbers of antelope. The first hunt takes place in late August and the second hunt in September, when the bucks are in rut. Antelope hunts include a private land owner permit, lodging and ranch-style meals. All hunters in 2014 harvested great antelope bucks, with the majority taking home 14 to 15 inch antelopes. Northern New Mexico has a well known reputation for large populations of antelope. The large, flat, open spaces of our top country make for ideal antelope habitat. We have had 100% success for the past 14 years on these hunts and have harvested some real trophy antelope. Hunts are guided 2X1.
Our Merriam turkey hunts are 3 day hunts that have a 2 bird limit. They begin in mid-April and continue through the early part of May. The turkey hunts include lodging and meals as well. The license is over the counter. Our turkey hunting country includes river bottoms and wooded canyons that are prime turkey habitat. This area may be some of the best Merriam turkey hunting found anywhere. Fresh spring growths in the hay fields concentrate the turkey near big cottonwoods where they roost. Hunters can expect to see high numbers of turkey during these hunts. We have never hunted our turkey hard, which means they are not normally “call shy” and most hunters generally get the 2 bird limit. Hunts are guided 2X1
The black bear finds an excellent home within our hunting area. The bears have prospered with little hunting pressure and the population contains a high percent of older, fully mature bears. For 2015, we will have bear hunts the last of August along with combination hunts during antelope, elk and deer season. These hunts are primarily spot and stalk. We are taking mature bears every year. Furnished is lodging and great meals. The license is over the counter but hunters planning to bear hunt need to be purchased ahead of arrival, as the license is not valid for 48 hours after purchase. Bear hunts are guided 2X1. Our bear’s coat coloring ranges from shades of black, brown, red and blonde. Probably around half of our bears are a color other than black.
